Why Homemade Pesto is Better (and Healthier) Than Store-Bought
This recipe is one I keep coming back to because it’s simple, nourishing, and made with ingredients I can feel good about. While store-bought pesto might seem convenient, making it yourself at home has some serious perks—especially when you’re focused on clean eating and reducing exposure to unnecessary additives.
This pesto is more than just a recipe. It’s a reminder that what we put into our bodies matters—especially when healing is the goal. Homemade gives us the gift of intention, and in our kitchen, intention equals love.
Why Homemade Pesto Wins Every Time
1. No Fillers or Preservatives
Many store-bought pestos (even the ones in the “natural” aisle) often contain added preservatives, cheap oils like canola or soybean oil, and unnecessary stabilizers. When you make it at home, you’re in full control—every ingredient serves a purpose and supports your health.
2. Higher-Quality Oils = Healthier Fats
We use extra virgin olive oil in this recipe, which is rich in heart-healthy monounsaturated fats and powerful antioxidants. Many shelf-stable pestos cut corners with refined oils. Not here.
3. Organic, Clean Ingredients
Choosing organic basil and organic pine nuts means you’re skipping out on pesticides and prioritizing your body’s well-being. When we’re navigating something like cancer and chemo, every little choice adds up. Organic = intentional nourishment.
