Gyro smashed tacos

If you’re craving a fun, flavor-packed twist on classic Greek street food, these Gyro Smashed Tacos are about to be your new obsession. Think of everything you love about a traditional gyro herby seasoned meat, creamy tzatziki, crisp veggies, warm spices and imagine all of that smashed straight onto a golden, crispy tortilla. It’s the perfect mash-up of Greek flavors and taco-night energy: fast, fresh, and ridiculously delicious.

What makes these tacos so irresistible is how simple they are to throw together while still tasting like something you’d order from your favorite food truck. You season organic, grass-fed ground beef with cozy Mediterranean spices, roll it into little balls, and then smash each one right onto a soft tortilla as it sears on a hot skillet. The meat gets juicy and flavorful, the tortilla turns perfectly crisp around the edges, and the whole kitchen starts smelling amazing.

From there, it’s all about the toppings the cooling, garlicky tzatziki; juicy tomatoes; crunchy cucumbers; thinly sliced red onion; herbaceous parsley; and of course, those must-have crispy fries that make it feel like a real gyro experience. Every bite hits that ideal balance of savory, creamy, tangy, cool, and crisp.

They’re fun enough for a weekend cooking moment with friends, but easy enough for a quick weeknight dinner especially if you prep your tzatziki ahead of time. And don’t skip the squeeze of fresh lemon at the end; it brightens everything and makes these smashed tacos truly next-level.

Prep Time5 minutes
Cook Time30 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 lb Organic Grass Fed Ground Beef
  • 1 tsp Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Paprika, Cumin, Dried Oregano, Salt, Pepper
  • 6 Tortillas (I like the brand Vista Hermosa)

Toppings:

  • 1 medium Tomato
  • 1 medium Cucumber
  • 1 cup Lettuce
  • 1 medium Red Onion
  • French Fries (I like the brand Jesse & Bens)
  • Fresh Parsley
  • Feta Cheese

Homemade Tzatziki:

  • 1 Cucumber (grated)
  • 1/2 cup Yogurt
  • 3 cloves Garlic
  • 2 tbsp Lemon Juice
  • 1 tsp Lemon Zest
  • 1/4 cup Dill
  • 2 tbsp Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, combine the beef with onion powder, garlic powder, paprika, cumin, oregano, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly until the seasoning is evenly distributed throughout the meat.
  2. Form small balls of the seasoned meat and place one on top of each tortilla. Heat a skillet or griddle over medium-high heat, then place the tortillas (with the meat side down) onto the hot surface.
  3. Cook for about 4-5 minutes, then flip and cook for another 2 minutes to crisp up the tortilla.
  4. Transfer the tacos to a tray and broil under the grill for 2-3 minutes for an extra golden, crispy finish.
  5. To make the homemade tzatziki, grate the cucumber, then place it in a clean towel and squeeze out as much excess liquid as possible. In a mixing bowl, combine the yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, lemon juice, lemon zest, chopped dill, and olive oil. Stir everything together until smooth and well combined.
  6. Spread a generous spoonful of tzatziki over each taco. Top with diced tomatoes, crispy fries, sliced red onion, feta, and fresh parsley.
