Homemade Copycat Reese’s Cups: Pumpkin Edition

When it comes to Halloween (or honestly, any time of year), Reese’s cups are hard to beat. That classic combo of chocolate and peanut butter is iconic—but have you ever looked at the ingredient list on the store-bought version? With over 16 ingredients, including additives like lecithin, reduced protein whey, dextrose, vegetable oils, and preservatives such as TBHQ, the candy you thought was simple is actually packed with fillers. Not only do these extras compromise the nutritional value, but they also take away from the natural, rich flavors that should shine through.

That’s where homemade comes in. These Homemade Copycat Reese’s Cups: Pumpkin Edition are proof that less really is more. With just six simple, whole ingredients, you can recreate a cleaner, more nourishing version of this beloved treat—no weird additives required. The base is rich and creamy peanut butter, paired with smooth semi-sweet chocolate and lightly sweetened for balance. A hint of vanilla ties everything together, while the addition of pumpkin brings a seasonal twist that makes these cups extra cozy and festive.

The best part? They’re ridiculously easy to make. You don’t need fancy equipment, hours in the kitchen, or any hard-to-find ingredients. Just melt, mix, and layer—and before you know it, you’ve got a batch of chocolatey, peanut-buttery pumpkin cups that taste indulgent but feel good to eat. Perfect for Halloween parties, gifting, or stashing in your freezer for when the craving hits, these homemade treats prove that “better for you” can still taste every bit as delicious—if not more so—than the original.

Prep Time5 minutes
Cook Time20 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Organic Peanut Butter
  • 1/2 cup Organic Unsalted Butter
  • 2 3/4 cups Wholesomesweet Confectioners Sugar
  • 2 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 2 cups Semi-Sweet Choclate Chips (I like the brand Enjoy Life, Hu Chocolate, or Tonys Chocolate)
  • 1 tablespoon Coconut Oil
  • Pumpkin Cookie Cutter (from amazon)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the butter, peanut butter, confectioners’ sugar, and vanilla extract. Mix until the ingredients come together into a dough-like consistency with large clumps.
  2. Take the peanut butter mixture and shape it into small, flattened discs or pumpkin-inspired shapes. Use your hands or a cookie cutter for a festive touch. I got my pumpkin cookie cutter from amazon!
  3. Place the shaped peanut butter discs onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Freeze for at least one hour to firm up, making them easier to dip in chocolate.
  4. In a double boiler or microwave-safe bowl, melt the chocolate chips with the coconut oil until smooth. Stir occasionally to prevent burning.
  5. Remove the peanut butter shapes from the freezer and dip each one into the melted chocolate. Ensure they’re fully coated, then place them back on the parchment-lined baking sheet.
  6. Refrigerate the coated peanut butter cups for at least 15 minutes, or until the chocolate is fully set. Serve chilled or at room temperature for the perfect indulgence!
